Welcome to The Apple Reference & Presentations Library (ARPL).  ARPL takes advantage of the latest Macintosh technology to improve the way information is delivered to the field and Apple partners.  The interfaces are designed to let you find, preview, and copy information from the CD quickly, without sub-launching applications.  If you used the Finder in the past rather than the navigation system, make sure you give the new system a try.  Due to the large volume of materials provided, this version of ARPL has been split into two CDs.

  5. Please take a moment to use the “Feedback” feature.  This provides us with feedback on how you like ARPL and how we can improve it.  We need your input to make the system work for you.

  7. Be sure to remove all previous versions of ARPL software from your hard drive.  All the new software you need is contained on this CD.

  10. • Presentation Maker

Presentation Maker is a presentation editor that lets you mix and match slides from any of the presentations on the ARPL CD.  Though you cannot change the slides selected through Presentation Maker, (you must use Persuasion to customize slides), you can add titles, import PICTs, and overlay QuickTime movies using Presentation Maker's custom application Slide Sorter.   Presentation Maker/Slide Sorter provides a fast and easy way to browse through all presentations, find the slides you want, and rebuild them into a new presentation specifically addressing your needs.

If you want to create a presentation that will run without the CD, you must use Slide Sorter to create a stand-alone presentation.  You will need to take the Slide Sorter presentation folder created with you (containing the Slide Sorter document, slides, and movies) plus you will need the Slide Sorter application (available in the Getting Started folder).

  16. ** NOTE: The 3.6 version of Slide Sorter on this CD is required and should replace any older copies of Slide Sorter you may have.

  19. • The Getting Started folder

  21. This folder was created to help you easily and effectively access the information on The Apple Reference & Presentations Library CD.  It contains the following folders:

  23.   - Fonts:  This folder contains all fonts which are required to view and print the 
  24.      information found on ARPL.  Drag the contents into your System folder.  This will 
  25.      place all the necessary fonts for working with ARPL into your system Font folder.
  26.      Included are:
  27.           AppleGaramond
  28.           Bookman
  29.           AppleGaramond Bd
  30.           AppleGaramond Bk
  31.           Garamond Narrow
  32.           Helvetica
  33.           Helvetica (bold)
  34.           Helvetica Black
  35.           Helvetica Compressed
  36.           MerrionSquare Font
  37.           N Helvetica Narrow
  38.           N Helvetica Narrow (bold)
  39.           New Century Schlbk

  41.   - CD-ROM Setup 4.0.5 :  CD-ROM software must be installed on your system's startup 
  42.      drive to access your CD-ROM drive.  This folder contains the latest version of this 
  43.      software and instructions on how to use it.

  45.   - QuickTime:  ARPL requires that you run QuickTime version 1.6.1.  If you do 
  46.      not already have QuickTime or the latest version, you will need to drag this icon 
  47.      into your System Folder.  Please search for and remove QuickTime 1.0 (or any other
  48.      older versions of QuickTime) from your boot volume to ensure proper ARPL 
  49.      functionality.

  51.   - Presentation Maker:  This contains the Slide Sorter application mentioned above.

  53.   - Glue Viewer: This application is used to view several files on the ARPL CD.

  55.   - Sound Manager 3.0:  This contains the new Apple Sound Manager.  This is not 
  56.      compatible with the Macintosh Classic, Plus, or SE.  If you use a Quadra 660AV or 
  57.      840AV, it is already included on your machine - do not re-install it.

  59.   - HyperCard Player:  Several demos contained on ARPL use HyperCard.  If you do not 
  60.      already have a copy of HyperCard, this version will allow you to view, but not edit 
  61.      HyperCard stacks.
